In association with the Curtas Vila do Conde festival, the Kortfilmfestival Leuven presents two short film programs.
The 16th edition of the Kortfilmfestival Leuven presents a program dedicated to Portugal, called ‘Focus on Portugal’, which includes the screening of two programs of Portuguese short films curated by Curtas Vila do Conde – International Film Festival.
25 APRIL IN SHORTS
In 1974, one of the most peaceful coups in Portuguese history took place. The streets were filled with carnations, democracy reigned and centuries of Portuguese colonization came to an end. What impact did the Carnation Revolution have on the Portuguese population? What consequences does it still have today? This program takes us back in time, teaching us about the history of Portugal, as well as showing us little stories of ordinary people, like that of a young woman in 1971 who decides that life is more than cooking, ironing and looking after others.
· The Outlaws (Abi Feijó, 1993, Portugal, ANI, 14′)
· Young Lady (Simão Cayatte, 2016, Portugal, FIC, 15′)
· 25 April - An Adventure for Democracy (Edgar Pêra, 2000, Portugal, DOC/EXP, 16')
· The Pink Jacket (Mónica Santos, 2022, Portugal/France, ANI, 8′)
· Metaphor or Sadness Inside Out (Catarina Vasconcelos, 2013, Portugal, DOC, 30')
BEST OF CURTAS
The best of Curtas Vila do Conde mixes fiction and animation in stories that range from healthy social criticism to absolute absurdity. What world opens up when a population of rare mushrooms grows in the bathroom? How do things end when an architect confronts the neighbourhood he's threatening to gentrify? This program gives you the answers you need, but also leaves you with a few extra questions.
· Combat (Rita M. Pestana, 2023, Brazil/Portugal, FIC, 23′)
· Percebes (Alexandra Ramires/Laura Gonçalves, 2024, Portugal/France, ANI/DOC, 11′)
· 2720 (Basil da Cunha, 2023, Portugal/Switzerland, FIC, 25′)
· Bad For a Moment (Daniel Soares, 2024, Portugal, FIC, 15′)
· 2nd Person (Rita Barbosa, 2022, Portugal, FIC, 16′)
This Belgian festival is set to take place between November 29th and December 7th in the city of Leuven.
