Daniel Soares' short film is part of the Short Film Competition at the 40th edition of the festival taking place at Los Angeles, from 21 to 25 October.
"A Few Things Happening by a River", by Daniel Soares, has its North American premiere at American Film Institute Festival — the longest-running film festival in Los Angeles. It screens on 22 October, as part of the "Shorts Program: Live Action 1" session. The film is selected for the Short Film Competition, whose winners become eligible for Academy Award consideration in the Live Action, Animated and Documentary categories.
The short had its world premiere in May, in the official short film competition of the 79th Cannes Film Festival, competing for the Short Film Palme d'Or. Its premiere at Cannes marked the director's return to the festival, two years after receiving a jury Honourable Mention in 2024 for "Bad for a Moment".
"A Few Things Happening by a River" is a Portuguese-French co-production between O Som e a Fúria, Kid with a Bike and L'Oeil Vif Productions.
