The films of Portuguese directors are highlighted in the program of the 32nd Curtas Vila do Conde.
The selection for the 32nd edition of Curtas Vila do Conde - International Film Festival once again emphasises the vitality, diversity and energy of several generations of filmmakers, some making their debut and others already very well known to the festival's audience.
As for the films, they are all absolute premieres in Portugal, although some have already had auspicious international premieres: Maria Trigo Teixeira presented 'It Shouldn't Rain Tomorrow' in the selection of the Annecy Animated Film Festival and Inês Lima premiered 'The Moving Garden' in the prestigious Directors' Fortnight in Cannes; Daniel Soares won an honourable mention in the official selection of short films in Cannes with 'Bad for a Moment'.
Among the newcomers, who are usually very well received, this year are Rita M. Pestana ('Combat'), Patrícia Neves Gomes ('The Convent Gardener') and Margarida Assis ('God-and-a-Half').
Among the 'returnees', Alexandra Ramires returns to Curtas with Laura Gonçalves, after 'Tie' (2020) won Best Animation in the International Competition; Mário Macedo won Best Director in the National Competition with 'Skin River' (2021); Joana Nogueira and Patrícia Rodrigues won Take One! with 'That's How It Was' (2016).
In the competition Take One! emerges as a highlight of new talent, including Carlos Pereira's new film 'Slimane, and is a privileged stage for a new generation of Portuguese filmmakers.
