The short films directed by Alexandra Ramires, Laura Gonçalves, and Daniel Soares have been selected for the International Competition of the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival.
The short films 'Percebes' (Alexandra Ramires and Laura Gonçalves, 2024, Portugal/France, ANI/DOC, 11') and 'Bad For a Moment' (Daniel Soares, 2024, Portugal, '15) have been selected for the International Competition of the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, which celebrates its 46th edition from January 31st to February 8th, 2025 in the French city.
Laura Gonçalves, one of the directors of 'Percebes', has a remarkable history with the festival: at the 44th edition of the festival, her film 'The Garbage Man' (Laura Gonçalves, 2022, Portugal, ANI/DOC, 12′) won the award for Best Animated Film, winning over the judges with a powerful narrative about family memories and the life of an emigrant uncle.
Meanwhile, 'Bad For a Moment' has accumulated international recognition. The short had its world premiere in the official competition at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received an honorable mention. The film explores deep social issues by following a team-building event that confronts an architect with the consequences of gentrification in the neighborhood where he works. It's the return of director Daniel Soares to the festival. In 2023, he was also in the international competition with the film 'Please Make It Work'.
These selections highlight the strength of Portuguese short films on the international scene, celebrating narratives and styles that continue to capture the attention of audiences and jurors around the world, confirming Portugal's relevance on the world short film scene.
At the same time, the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Market is taking place, a fundamental space for promoting Portuguese cinema, which welcomes more than 3,600 professionals every year. The Portuguese Short Film Agency will once again be present, and this is a great opportunity to promote the works represented and to present the latest additions to the catalog in distribution.
