Biography
Isadora Neves Marques is a film director, visual artist, and writer, born in Lisbon, Portugal. They directed three short fiction films, namely Becoming Male in the Middle Ages, winner of the Ammodo Tiger Short Award at IFFR – International Film Festival Rotterdam on its premiere in 2022; The Bite (2019), winner of best short film at Go Shorts, Short Waves, and MixBrasil among other festival prizes, and Exterminator Seed (2017). Their films were screened in numerous film festivals, including at the Toronto International Film Festival, New York Film Festival, and the European Film Awards. They were the Portuguese Official Representation – Portugal Pavilion at the 59th La Biennale di Venezia in 2022. Their artist films and artworks have been exhibited in major art institutions, such as Castello di Rivoli, High Line, CA2M, CaixaForum, Gasworks, Pérez Art Museum of Miami, Palais de Tokyo, and Beijing Inside Out Art Museum; at the Liverpool Biennial, Gwangju Biennial, and Guangzhou Image Triennial, among others; and in screenings at Tate Modern Film, Serpentine Galleries, and HOME Manchester, to name a few. They were awarded the Pinchuk Future Generation Special Prize in 2021 and the Present Future Art Prize in 2018. Together with Catarina de Sousa, they founded the film producer Foi Bonita a Festa in 2021. Outside of cinema and the arts, they founded the poetry press Pântano Books in 2020 and are a regular contributor to numerous publications with articles on art, cinema, and theory.
