
Biography
Manoel de Oliveira was born in Porto, Portugal, on December 11, 1908. He was considered the oldest active filmmaker in the world, as well as one of the most prolific, continuing to direct an average of one film per year past the age of 100. Oliveira was also the only director in Film History whose career has spanned from the silent era to the digital age. Among his uncountable distinctions and awards, Oliveira has received two Carreer Golden Lions at the Venice Biennale. He died on April 2nd, 2015 with 106 years old.
