The films by João Gonzalez and Laura Gonçalves have won several awards at Oscar qualifying festivals in recent months, making them eligible for the American Academy Awards. And now they've gone one step further: they were announced today as part of the shortlist for Best Animated Short Film. The final list of nominees will be known on 24 January 2023, with the final awards ceremony scheduled for 7 March. Note that no Portuguese film has yet reached this last stage of Oscar nomination.
