Gonçalo Tocha

Biography

Gonçalo Tocha 1979, Lisboa-Portugal Filmmaker and musician. Graduation and Post-Graduation in Portuguese Language and Culture by the University of Lisboa (2003) Founder of the cine-club NuCiVo (Lisbon University) where he was responsible for programming, production, and directing within the genre of video-activism. Made his first short film, “Bye bye my blackbird” (2006) in the framework of Mediawave Festival in Hungary. “Balaou” (2007), homage to his mother, was his debut feature film, winning two awards in the Indielisboa 07 festival. It was screened at the Vancouver Film Festival, Viennale, Bafici, New Zealand Film Festivals, and on the channel ARTE. “IT´S THE EARTH NOT THE MOON” (2011) is his second feature film, shot in the small atlantic island of Corvo, premiered in the Festival Locarno (a Jury Special Mention), winner of the first prize of the DocLisboa2011 International Competition, the first prize in Bafici 2012 (“Cine del Futuro” competition), first prize in the San Francisco Int. Film Festival 2012 (Documentary competition) and first prize in DocumentaMadrid 2012 (Documentario de Creacion competition). Is now finishing a new feature film shot in the small fisherwomen community of Vila Chã, in the north of Portugal (by invitation of the Festival Curtas Vila do Conde).
